The Buffalo Bandits will honor the indigenous history behind the game of lacrosse and celebrate the rich culture of our local native communities during Native American Heritage Night presented by Seneca Resorts and Casinos on Saturday, February 4 at KeyBank Center.
In celebration of the night, the Dëdwa:d dance troupe will perform traditional Native American dances and a group from Seneca Girls Lacrosse will play on the field at halftime. Bandits players will visit that team in the lead-up to the game.
The team is also holding an online sweepstakes offering fans a chance to win a handmade beaded medallion, created by native artist Jacky Snyder. She has created similar medallions for the Bandits players each of the past two seasons in conjunction with Native American Heritage Night. The winner of the fan giveaway will be chosen in the lead-up to Saturday’s game.
Native artist Jacky Snyder will be creating custom-made beaded medallions for players to wear before the game. American Legion-Iroquois Post #1587, comprised of all women, will present the colors prior to anthems.
All fans in attendance can use their ticket for $20 of free play at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino on game day as well.
Faceoff against the Rochester Knighthawks is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
The recipient of the Native American Scholarship will also be recognized during the game. The winner of the scholarship will be awarded $1,000. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be of Native American descent and residents of Western New York or Southern Ontario. The scholarship is only open to students currently enrolled at or accepted to an accredited college or university.
