Following a 14-5 victory Friday night, Buffalo Bandits forward Dhane Smith lauded the efforts of goaltender Matt Vinc, who put on a master class in net.
In Game 1 of the NLL East Conference Finals at KeyBank Center, Vinc was an anchor for the team between the pipes, turning away 52 of 57 shots on goal.
“When he goes, we go,” Smith said. “Especially as an offense, we get going when he makes a big save.”

The five goals allowed in a single game was a season-best for Vinc, as well as a low point for Toronto, who endured its worst loss of the year. After setting the franchise record for goalie wins, it comes as no surprise to witness Vinc, an eight-time Goaltender of the Year, continue his success from the regular season.
“He was solid,” coach John Tavares said. “He showed a lot of confidence, and we have a lot of confidence in him. When he’s stopping the ball like that, we can take a lot more risks on defense.”
The Bandits now have a quick turnaround as they’ll hit the road for Game 2 of the best-of-three series tonight. Faceoff from FirstOntario Centre is set for 7 p.m.
The game can be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard live on WGR 550 AM.
If Buffalo wins, the Bandits will advance to the NLL Finals for the third consecutive season. If Toronto prevails, Game 3 will be played on Saturday, May 20 in Banditland.
Last year, the Bandits swept the Rock to advance to the league championship, winning Game 2 on the road. A late second goal from Toronto was waved off, granting the Bandits a narrow 10-9 victory to send them back to the Finals.
“We’re gonna see a different team tomorrow,” Tavares said after Game 1. “[Saturday] is going to be a tighter team. We just want to win.”
