Buffalo Bandits forward Dhane Smith has been named the NLL’s 2021-22 Most Valuable Player, the league announced today.
Smith, 29, recorded 135 points, including an NLL-record 94 assists in 18 games. The previous assist record was held by Mark Matthews, who posted 84 helpers in 2018-19.
Smith was just three points shy of breaking the league’s all-time single-season record. He set that mark back in 2016. That year, he earned his first and only other MVP award.
Smith is now one of five players in NLL history to win at least two MVPs.
The Kitchener, Ontario native has recorded 819 points (310+509) in 143 career games for an average of 5.73 points per game. He’s topped the 100-point mark five times.
