The Buffalo Bandits today announced the team has signed forward Dhane Smith to a one-year deal, pending league approval.
Smith (6’2”, 207 lbs., 9/23/1992) returns to the Bandits for his 10th season with the team after posting a league-high 135 points (41+94) in the 2021-22 season.
Smith was named the league MVP and his 94 assists stand as an NLL single-season record, surpassing Mark Matthews’ 84-assist season in 2018. Smith continued his offensive dominance into the 2022 postseason, tallying 35 points (13+22) in six games, which ranked second among his teammates and fifth in the NLL.
He ranks third all-time in franchise history in goals (310), assists (509), and points (819), trailing only John Tavares and Mark Steenhuis, respectively, in each category.
The Bandits forward was also named the NLL MVP in 2016, after a record-breaking 137-point (72+65) season. His 72 goals and 137 points that season still stand as the most ever recorded in a single season in NLL history.
The Kitchener, Ontario native has represented Canada at an international level twice, winning a gold medal at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in both 2015 and 2019.
Smith was a first-round selection (fifth overall) of the Bandits in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
