The Buffalo Bandits today announced the team has signed transition player Ian MacKay to a one-year contract, pending league approval.
MacKay (5’10”, 216 lbs., 5/31/1994) notched 23 points (11+12) in the 2021-22 regular season and 12 points (4+8) in the playoffs. MacKay tied his previous career high in goals (11) and set a new career high in loose-ball recoveries (104) in 2021-22.
In 2018-19, MacKay earned NLL All-Rookie honors and was a finalist for the NLL Rookie of the Year Award after finishing the season ranked ninth in franchise history in rookie scoring with 32 points (11+21).
MacKay, who was selected by the Bandits in the first round (4th overall) of the 2018 NLL Entry Draft, had a prolific collegiate lacrosse career at the University of Vermont prior to turning pro. He left Vermont’s program as the all-time leading goal scorer (150) and ranked fourth in career points (230) and fifth in career assists (80). The Port Elgin, Ontario native has also played lacrosse on an international level, winning a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2018 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championship in Netanya, Israel.
