The Buffalo Bandits today announced the team has signed forward Dhane Smith to a three-year deal, pending league approval.
Smith (6’2”, 195 lbs., 9/23/1992) finished the 2018-19 season with 102 points (32+70), which ranked fifth in the NLL and tied John Tavares for eighth in franchise history. It marked the fourth time in his career that he recorded at least 100 points, making him the sixth player in NLL history with at least four 100-point seasons. His career-high 70 assists led the NLL and set a single-season franchise record. Smith continued his offensive dominance into the postseason, tallying 21 points (5+16) in four games, which led the Bandits and ranked second in the NLL.
Smith has totaled 635 points (254+381) over the course of a prolific six-season career, ranking in the top 10 in Bandits history in career goals (254, 3rd), assists (381, 3rd), points (635, 3rd) and games played (117, 6th). Smith also ranks in the top 10 in franchise playoff history in goals (28, 4th), assists (42, 3rd), points (70, 3rd) and games played (13, T-8th). He was named the league MVP in 2016 after a record-breaking 137-point (72+65) season. His 72 goals and 137 points that year are still the most ever recorded in a single season in NLL history.
The Kitchener, Ontario native has represented Canada at an international level twice, winning a gold medal at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in both 2015 and 2019. Smith was a first-round selection (fifth overall) of the Bandits in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
