Buffalo Bandits forward Vaughn Harris and goaltender Davide DiRuscio were selected by the Philadelphia Wings as the team filled out its roster during the NLL Expansion Draft on Monday. The Bandits also sent defenseman Zac Reid to the Wings in exchange for Expansion Draft considerations.
The Bandits made a deal with the league’s other expansion team as well, acquiring defenseman Bryce Sweeting from the San Diego Seals in exchange for defenseman Ethan Schott and a second-round pick (No. 17 overall) in this year’s NLL Entry Draft.
Sweeting, 24, was selected by San Diego from the Colorado Mammoth in the Expansion Draft after setting career-highs in games (15), goals (2), points (5) and loose-ball recoveries (39) last season. He’s a left-shot defenseman, which Bandits general manager Steve Dietrich identified as an area of need for the club.
“Bryce is a young defender that we’ve been doing our best to try and acquire for the last year and a half,” Dietrich said. “We were very excited to be able to add Bryce. We think he’s going to be able to step in and be a contributor for us right from the beginning.”
Teams were able to protect a total of 11 players for the Expansion Draft. Buffalo’s protected list included forwards Josh Byrne, Jordan Durston, Shawn Evans, Mitch Jones and Dhane Smith; transition player Kevin Brownell and defensemen Mitch de Snoo, Thomas Hoggarth, Justin Martin, Steve Priolo and Nick Weiss.
“We’re excited to be able to keep the core of our roster together, but it is always tough to lose individuals that have given a lot to our organization,” Dietrich said. “I’d like to thank all four players for their hard work and I wish them the very best with their new teams.”
The Bandits hold the third and fourth overall picks in the NLL Entry Draft, which will be held in the fall.
