Shawn Williams scored the game-winning goal with 1:28 remaining as the Buffalo Bandits erased a six-goal deficit to overtake the Philadelphia Wings 16-15 on Saturday in front of 1,989 fans at First Niagara Center.
Williams and Jamie Rooney recorded hat tricks for the Bandits. Ryan Benesch, Kevin Brownell and Aaron Wilson each added a pair of goals as well.
Philadelphia’s John Ranagan opened the scoring at 11:36. Teammate Patrick Saunders added two goals to give the Wings an early three-goal advantage. Buffalo would score the remaining two goals of the quarter as Ryan Benesch and Aaron Wilson scored less than three minutes apart to trim the margin to 3-2 by the end of the first quarter.
Philadelphia controlled the second quarter, outscoring Buffalo 9-5. Wilson added his second goal of the game. Shawn Williams scored twice over the span of four minutes. Derek Suddons and Kevin Brownell each added a goal.
The Wings led 12-7 at the half.

Philadelphia scored to open the quarter, expanding their lead to a game-high six goals. The Bandits would answer back, as Derek Hopcroft would reduce the deficit to 13-8 with 9:51 remaining in third quarter. After another Philadelphia goal, the Bandits would score three consecutive goals to close out the quarter. Forward Jamie Rooney scored his first goal of the game, while Hopcroft and Benesch each added their second goal of the game to cut the Wings lead to 14-11 entering the fourth quarter.
The momentum for Buffalo would carry into the fourth quarter, as Rooney opened the scoring with his second goal of the game in tremendous fashion. Rooney went over his shoulder on an excellent feed from Williams to record the tally. Moments later, Dylan Goddard scored for Buffalo on the power play to cut the Wings lead to 14-13.
Kevin Brownell ran past two Philadelphia defenders and placed a shot over the shoulder of the Philadelphia goalie to knot the score at 11:15. Rooney would score 1:19 later to complete his hat trick and give the Bandits their first lead of the game, 15-14.
Kevin Ross scored for Philadelphia to even the game at 15 with 2:03 remaining. Williams went between the Philadelphia goalie’s legs for the game-winning-goal at 1:28.
Kurtis Wagar and Steven Fryer rotated time in the crease. Wagar played the first and third quarters, while Fryer played the second and fourth quarters.
Buffalo will travel to Hagerstown, Ont. on Saturday, Dec. 14 to scrimmage the Edmonton Rush at Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 7:00 p.m.
