BUFFALO, NY (March 6, 2013) --- The National Lacrosse League today announced that Buffalo Bandits transition player Jay Thorimbert has been named NLL “Transition Player of the Week” for Week 9 of the 2013 NLL season.
Thorimbert scored twice and recovered a 2013 team-high 17 loose balls in Buffalo’s 15-13 road win against the East’s top-seeded Toronto Rock on Thursday, Feb. 28. He followed that performance up with 14 loose balls in an 11-10 overtime loss to the Philadelphia wings the next night. Thorimbert ranks fourth among all NLL players with 89 loose balls in 10 games.
Thorimbert went 41-for-56 (73.2%) on faceoffs in the weekend’s games, improving to third in the league with 144 faceoff wins and a faceoff percentage of 60.5%. In Friday’s game, he passed Mike Accursi (298) for third-most faceoffs won in Bandits franchise history, with 308. He trails only Cory Bomberry (365) and Rich Kilgour (359).
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
