The National Lacrosse League announced today that Buffalo Bandits transition player Mark Steenhuis was named Offensive Player of the Week as well as Overall Player of the Week, while rookie forward Kyle Clancy was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week, for Week #9 of the 2010 NLL Season. The Week #9 NLL schedule consisted of games played on the weekend of March 5th -7th.
Steenhuis, the Bandits leading scorer scorched the Titans with 10 points (6+4) in a 12-10 upset win against Orlando on Saturday. Steenhuis paced the Bandits emotional win with a natural hat-trick to start the Buffalo scoring. Two of his six goals came on the power play while recording a season-high 17 shots on Titans goaltender Matt Vinc. The win was crucial for the Bandits, who entered the contest with a 2-6 record and needed to start the second half of their season on a strong note
Bandits’ rookie sensation Kyle Clancy was also named Rookie of the Week. Clancy continued his brilliant rookie campaign posting six poins (2+4) against the Orlando Titans on Saturday night. Clancy’s first goal was the beneficiary of some smooth passing from Mark Steenhuis and John Tavares on the power play. Clancy and leading scorer Mark Steenhuis both combined to score eight of the 12 Buffalo goals on Saturday.
Steenhuis and Clancy are back in action this weekend. Staring on Friday night, Buffalo will travel up the QEW to face the Toronto Rock. Ball drops at the Air Canada Centre at 7:30 p.m. ET. After the game, the Bandits will head to Boston to face the Blazers on Saturday night; faceoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the leagues eleven member clubs.
